5 things we might not have known about Tebow

This is a very interesting article. Provides some cool facts about Tebow. Hope you enjoy reading it.

This article came from www.askmen.com

Tim Tebow is one of the most talked about players in the NFL -- not too bad for a player who has yet to play a pro game.

Every sports fan has an opinion, one way or another, on the college superstar-turned-Denver-Broncos quarterback. He makes headlines with his jersey sales and his new haircut, so it’s hard for him to stay low-key.

Here are five things that you probably don’t know about Tim Tebow.

1- Tim Tebow, like Manny Pacquiao, was born in the Philippines

Tim Tebow and Manny Pacquiao are both champions. Tebow is one of the greatest college football players of all time, and Pacquiao is one of the best boxers of all time. What most people don’t know is that they’re native to the same country. That’s right -- Tebow was born in the Philippines.

Tebow’s parents were Christian missionaries, and he was born in Makati City, in the Philippines.

Tebow’s mom faced life-threatening complications while pregnant with him. While she was advised to have an abortion, she declined, and the rest is history.

2- Tim Tebow wasn’t always a quarterback

Tebow was homeschooled as a kid, but was allowed to play football for a local Florida high school. He started out playing tight end and linebacker before switching schools (and stirring up controversy) so he could play quarterback for a more pass-oriented offense.

He ended up at Nease High School, played quarterback, and garnered the attention of scouts across the nation.

Can you imagine Tim Tebow as a tight end or linebacker? Needless to say, heading to Nease High School was a very good idea for Tebow.

3- Tim Tebow was famous before he was famous

In 2006, MTV aired a show called Two-A-Days: Hoover High, which followed the Hoover Buccaneers, an Alabama high school football team. In the opening episode of the show, the Buccaneers played a school from Florida. The specific school? You guessed it -- Nease High School, with a quarterback by the name of Tim Tebow.

The Buccaneers proved to be too much for Tim Tebow and the rest of his Nease High School teammates in that matchup, but Tebow wouldn’t go on to lose too many nationally televised games going forward.

Before Tebow was a household name, he was already on TV doing what he does best: playing football.

4- Tim Tebow was almost part of the Alabama Crimson Tide

Many people associate Tim Tebow with his many achievements as quarterback for the Florida Gators. A lot of members of Gator Nation are still huge fans of Tebow, but think about this: One of Florida’s football gods almost went to Alabama.

Alabama was hot on Tim Tebow’s trail during the recruiting period. There were many people who thought Tebow would sign with the Crimson Tide, and I’m sure Gator fans cringe at the thought of Tebow wearing their rival’s crimson jersey.

Luckily for Gator Nation, Tebow chose Florida over Alabama (although both schools have claimed BCS National Championships in recent years).

5- He’s changing the way we think about NFL rookies

The Ron Burgundy in all of us says that Tim Tebow is kind of a big deal. He’s yet to play a snap in the NFL, but his jersey is already one of the top sellers in the league.

Not since Michael Vick have we seen so much hype surrounding a college quarterback entering the NFL. Perhaps the biggest difference is that Vick was the 1st overall pick; Tebow was the 25th overall pick, with many analysts projecting he’d fall out of the first round.

LeBron James had a lot of hype before he played a game in the NBA. James also started from day one, while Tim Tebow will start the season in a supporting role, and will be lucky to see much of the field on a regular basis. But who are we talking about with the NFL season just a few weeks away? Tom Brady and Peyton Manning aren’t making headlines -- Tim Tebow is.

#4 makes me wonder - What would the college football landscape be like if Tebow did indeed go to Alabama?
